  • 5: Quemado Lake Recreation Area

Quemado Lake is located 16 miles south of Quemado, NM. From Quemado, take NM 32 south 14.2 miles to the Quemado Lake/NM 103 sign. At the sign turn left onto NM 103 and go 4 miles to where Forest Road 13 (gravel) begins. Continue straight on FR 13 for 1 mile.

The Quemado Lake Recreation Area has a wide variety of activities available for all levels of recreationists. There are four campgrounds, which include spaces for group camping and RVs; a lake where you can go fishing and/or boating (non-motorized or electric motors only) and hiking trails galore. There is a small boat launch area located at the west end of the lake. Horses and ATVs are not allowed in the recreation area itself, but the El Caso Throwdown Campground is adjacent to the area and horses are permitted.
